Sustainability
Our office is located in an old Philips factory. The building is designed to built radio's in it. Because of the smart construction, the building is in use close to 100 years now in a variation of functions. This setting inspires to put sustainability at the core of our business. The office:
In the office we make use of small energy efficient computers. There is no printer: the workflow is paperless. We don't use air-conditioning.
Architecture:
To distinguish our business we try to make every design solution function as energy saver and/or to reduce maintenance costs. We deliver you energy saving advice for your house that makes it more spacious and better looking. We transform your house architecturally while it comes with energy saving and lower maintenance.
What installations do I need? Why is it better to leave my old electricity meter instead of getting a newer smart one? How to deal with bad energy contracts? How to deal with municipalities with strange hobbies like "all electric". We guide you through this labyrinth.
Urban planning:
We love to assist you with your urban renewal plans. We try to put the long term vision at the basis for the urban design. How will my building function in 50 years? Or is it wise to choose a temporary solution? You certainly want to make profit on your development, so you want to sell that last house or apartment. You don't want any misfits in your plan, or you won't sell them.
And how do I make my urban development energy neutral? Am I gonna deal with it as developer, or should the design invite the users and buyers to go energy neutral themselves? We look at daylight use, spaces on the building for energy production, and how to use green for our interior climate demands.
Razor Sharp
More and more people browse the internet with their tablets or mobile phones. These devices have display densities over 100 pixels per cm. Modern browsers are capable of dealing with these displays by loading high quality images. This website is updated for this. As a first step all tile images have been doubled in resolution. In a later stadium, the images in the articles will be available in higher definition too.
Low resolution devices also benefit from this update. As older iPhone's and Android phones can zoom up to 200% via double-tap, the extra detail is served to these devices as well.
Website in Japanese
Coming soon: a project strongly focussed at the Japanese market. As a preparation the website is translated in a third language.Opening Dutch Game Garden
The Dutch games industry grows rapidly. Dutch Game Garden in Utrecht facilitates start-ups in the games sector by offering small offices for rent in the Dutch Game Garden at the Neude square. The former location at the Drieharingenstraat became too small. Dutch Game Garden asked me to redesign the interior of the former ABN bank office at the Neude square.
Friday thirteenth the new building will be officially opened at the Indigo Showcase event. Indigo Showcase puts the latest and greates indy and educationally developed games in a spotlight for a broad public. The games will be shows on 26 of my Retro Space cabinets.

Building site
Retro Space is currently being manufactured in a run of 33 pieces. Soon this site will give more information about where they will be used.Colophon
This website is fully developed by myself in PHP and CSS. The content is stored in a database. The site does not use Javascript. This is quite unique for a website that works like an AJAX website. And the bigger your screen, the more fun the site gets. Finally a website that makes maximum use of 1920x1200 or 2560x1600 resolutions. The website is well suited for browsing on a tablet or mobile phone. The tap-zoom function works great with the grid layout, and if you have a high pixel density display, sharper images will be loaded automatically. The site is optimised for every resolution with the use of CSS Media Queries. Martijnkoch.com uses a so called "Responsive Layout".
